Housing Architecture: a field of innovation in Education, Accommodation and Public Space

"+ urban citizens are connected as never before, through mobile phones, meet-ups, pop-ups, co-working spaces, collaborative housing, shared transit services and globally driven local crises. Already we are swept up in Internet-drivenchange through the social media fuelled Arab Spring and the Occupy phenomenon. "
Gansky, L. Interdependence: a manifest for our urban future together. AD.

Architecture + Education + Public Space

Architectural education, as any discipline in 21st century, must be adapted to new production techniques, industry 4.0 had already taken place in very near past: mechanization and mass production had been evolved into mass customisation. Thus, education becomes a transdisciplinary interaction rather than today's one-way transmission. Architectural education must be free and equalitarian, that enhances self-learning, auto didacticism and learner led discovery by the way of lifelong learning. New architectural education is a continuous journey in terms of adult education, on the job training and professional development as well. The new media context of 21st century, must be a key impulsion for the studios that celebrates working + discussing + experimenting architecture with asynchronous learning. If those becomes the fundamentals of a studio, the lines between formality and informality will blur, it will degrade towards participatory education.

As well as architectural education, the metropolitan cities will be stratified, the life will be existing via max. connectedness. Architecture is supposed to democratize the design by the flexible adjustable spaces. Giving a gap for individuals to personalize must be primary study of architecture. With the help of personalization of space, populations have to morph into the societies by the way of interdependency. The collectivity of individuals increases only with connectedness.

Moscow: the city of Subterranean Survival Proposals

Moscow’s subterranean reticulations/experiences had been unfolded by an angiography, and it had been found that the reticulations of metro lines, subways, heating pipe routes, bomb shelters and cable collectors house the personalized public spaces of the street people –as called people without residency- of Moscow. Those survival proposals on one each of those interconnections are the unequivocal + unambiguous manifests against the control mechanisms on public spaces of Moscow. Because, eventually, “individuals with no residency” had customised + personalised the mass produced civic spaces -shelters, heat main pipes, metro stations- as the space is doomed to be personalised.

Moscow: the city of Subterranean Survival Proposals

Komsomolskaya square, in-between 3 main train stations in Moscow, houses diverse individuals, mostly the street people. Thus, the Komsomolskaya square had chosen to be settled as it is fed by the subterranean fluxes of metro lines and subways. The trilogies of accommodation, education and public space are interpenetrated by architectural program of TIE IN. The space enhances the concurrent centralism by the way of pneumatic delivery – collection tubes of foodbank, waste collection and laundry, TIE IN gives a space to be personalized by multiplying the volume of the square. As the cold weather conditions of moscow is a determining factor of public space, the horizontal axis-based spatiality of a subway, -which is quiet common used in Moscow due to cold winter- imitated in vertical axis to for the circulation.

TIE IN has a common architectural fiction, for underground and aboveground, as the materiality and physical conditions of medium changes, TIE IN responds them with the spatial solutions.

The spaces were designed by analysing the activities in and possible space for those activities. For instance, Protospace has an expandable spatiality with the help of pneumatic envelope, as users may need adjustable spaces for 1:1 prototypes. Again, the tool library was designed by redefining the tools of architecture, and the most suitable space for them.

All in all, TIE IN leads architecture learners, questioners, anyone from any piece of Moscow and the street people an opportunity to personalize, democratize and criticize the space.
